Physician's Formula Youthful Wear Spotless powder

     A while back I received a surprise package in the mail with a full size sample of the new Physician's Formula Youthful Wear Spotless Powder. I'm still not sure how I came to receive this, whether it was part of a coupon group that got my name or one of the Allure free stuff giveaways I tried to win. Since I wasn't sure and couldn't find it in stores, I waited awhile to review it. I recently spotted the full Youthful Wear line at Fred Meyer so I thought now would be a good time to tell you about it!

This powder claims to give "instant spotless coverage,"  to "reduce the look of spots by 67%" according to the Physician's Formula website and has an SPF of 15. It only comes in Translucent and there are two other formulas in this line, a Youth-Boosting Mattifying powder and a Youth-Boosting Illuminating powder. The Illuminating powder is the only one that also comes in Creamy Natural and Beige. The differences between the three seem small. The Spotless powder is the only one with sunscreen and the Illuminating powder is the only one with more than one shade. It seems to me they could have done the matte version and the illuminating version and it would have been simpler. Maybe they wanted to give more options regarding sunscreens. I'm not sure. What I do know is that I really like this one.

The packaging is the standard Physician's Formula powder or blush compact. There is the usual round tray of powder on top and a space underneath for a small brush. I threw the brush away as soon as I opened it. The included brush may work if you have nothing else, but it's really unnecessary. Physician's Formula could just as easily package these without a brush, save the space and the plastic and no one would care.  But I guess it's the thought right? 

     The powder itself is very fine and has a slight shimmer to it. This is what gives my skin such a great glow. The shimmer is so tiny that I hardly noticed it at first. I would compare it to the same type of shimmer you sometimes find in "luminous" foundations. After a few hours of wear I would start to see some shimmer on my arm where it had transferred after touching my face, (which I do a lot, it a bad habit.) There was very little, but there was some nonetheless. I don't mind the shimmer as it helps this product act as a highlighter and setting powder in one but others might.

     The extra coverage it provided was not "spotless" like it claimed to be, but I did notice it helped even out some spots my foundation didn't quite cover. There was no creasing and it didn't leave my face feeling dry. Most powders do so that is a huge win for me. I love having a dewy finish in my makeup but I don't like the stickiness those finishes usually leave. Most setting powders eliminate both the stickiness and the dewy finish. This powder lets me keep a healthy glow without the tackiness. I did notice that if my foundation wasn't dry enough there would be a slightly cakey appearance around my mouth but that was more of a technical error on my part rather than a reflection of the powder's performance.


     My overall opinion of this is that I love it. I would purchase this as a replacement for the illuminating powder I have but I would not expect it to act as a mattifying powder for oil. Since I only have oil problems on my chin and everywhere else is dry, I still need two separate powders for setting my makeup. Since I don't have to use a highlighter with this it saves me a step and I don't mind needing the matte powder for my chin. I plan on trying other powders in this line to see if they are as nice as this one.
